The COPES (Community Outreach and Planning for Emergency Services) hub Westport tsunami planning project is a collaborative effort to develop a tsunami evacuation plan and establish a community hub for emergency response in the coastal town of Westport, Washington, with the goal of improving community resilience and preparedness in the face of natural disasters.

A RAPID team traveled to Westport, WA, to gather images needed for local community planning research related to tsunami hazards for the NSF CoPe EAGER project “Coastal Hazard Planning in Time.” Instrumentation included Leica GPS antennas, the NCTech street view camera, and various drones. While in Westport, the RAPID researchers also conducted demonstrations of drone systems for a project supported by the Center for Safety Equity in Transportation, “Drones for Improving Traffic Safety of RITI Communities in Washington State.”
